A gunman has been shot dead by Israeli forces in the occupied West Bank after he opened fire at a military checkpoint.
At least eight people have been injured.

It happened at the Tayasir checkpoint, in the north of the territory.
At least two of the wounded are in critical condition.
It comes as the Israeli military continues an offensive in the occupied West Bank, which has killed at least 44 Palestinians, in two weeks.

Negotiations are set to begin on the second phase of the Gaza ceasefire agreement.
The first phase began on January the 19th and is due to last six weeks.
That's when Hamas is expected to release 33 Israeli captives held in Gaza.
In exchange, Israel has agreed to free nearly 1,900 Palestinians from its prisons.
At least 600 aid convoys are also due to enter Gaza every day, and Israeli forces withdraw from populated areas, allowing displaced civilians to return.

In the second stage, the remaining captives are to be exchanged for more Palestinian prisoners. Israeli forces are due to fully withdraw from Gaza and a permanent ceasefire is to be established.

And in the last phase, the bodies of captives are to be returned to Israel and the focus shifts to the reconstruction of Gaza.

Al Jazeera's senior political analyst Marwan Bishara says that Trump wants to show Netanyahu who's "the boss", as the Israeli leader boasts of being the first to be invited to Washington. Trump is expected to insist that his involvement in the ongoing situation primarily serves his and the US's interests.

Thousands of protesters in Bangladesh have demolished and set fire to the home of the country’s founding leader, as his daughter, ousted former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, delivered a fiery social media speech calling on her supporters to stand against the interim government.
The attack on Wednesday night was prompted by a speech Hasina planned to give to supporters from exile in neighbouring India, where she fled last August after a deadly student-led uprising against her 15-year rule. Critics had accused her of suppressing dissent.

Tamer Qarmout, an associate professor in public policy at the Doha Institute for Graduate Studies, has told Al Jazeera that US President Trump’s plan to “own” Gaza is not likely to come to fruition.
“We have been seeing American politicians, statesmen, retreating back from what Trump proposed two days ago,” he said.
“Now they’re talking about offering their technical expertise in a very humane way,” he added. Qarmout, who hails from Gaza, added that Palestinians would be in favour of this as long as it comes in the context of Palestinian dignity, where they have control over the rebuilding of their own homes.
“If the Trump admin is eyeing lucrative contracts or deals that come out of reconstruction … we’re talking about a huge bill for Gaza … if that’s what he’s eyeing, then that’s fine, we welcome American expertise whatever it is. But [it needs to be] in the context of a Palestinian state, in the context of preserving Palestinian dignity,” he added.
He said the world should “wait and see” as diplomacy between the US and its regional partners takes shape.

Hamas Spokesman Abdul Latif al-Qanou has made the announcement in a statement posted on Telegram.
He said the Palestinian group remains concerned about a number of issues, including shelter for people in Gaza, as well as aid supplies and reconstruction efforts.
Al-Qanou also accused Israel of “obstructing” humanitarian protocols included in the ceasefire deal and “evading and procrastinating” their implementation.
“Shelter and relief for our people is an urgent humanitarian issue that cannot tolerate evasion or procrastination by the occupation,” he said.

Swedish Police say 10 people have been killed in a shooting at an education centre in central Sweden, including the suspected shooter.
The shooting at Risbergska school in Orebro, 200km (124 miles) west of the capital, Stockholm, took place on Tuesday afternoon.
Police said the perpetrator was not previously known to them and there was no immediately identifiable motive. He was believed to be acting alone, they said.
