Agnes Callamard, Secretary-General of Amnesty International, stated that the revised death toll in Gaza, nearing 62,000, aligns with findings from the past 15 months. She emphasised that even lower figures were sufficient to prompt legal action, including investigations by the International Court of Justice and arrest warrants from the International Criminal Court. Callamard stressed that genocide is determined by intent and actions, not just the number of victims, and reiterated Amnesty’s stance that Israel has committed genocide in Gaza. She called for accountability, warning that a ceasefire must not erase the past. Additionally, she highlighted ongoing human rights violations in the occupied West Bank, including unlawful property destruction, detention, and displacement, though further analysis is needed to determine if these constitute war crimes or genocide.
