Do you know why it’s so hard to find a good free VPN for Windows? In my search for the best, I’ve come across three reasons.

The market is oversaturated by many loud names, each claiming to be the best.

A lot of those providers are empty shells designed to effectively collect and pawn user data.

The remaining minority is so limited in what it can do, they’re not even worth mentioning.

Despite all that, I have collected 3 great free VPN for Windows options and 2 honorable mentions that you will see in this video.

💎 AtlasVPN - The best fremium VPN provider
------------------------------------------------

The first free VPN on PC I want to cover is Atlas VPN. This is a freemium VPN, meaning it’s free, but also has a paid version with more features. It’s a great free VPN for Windows 10, especially for beginners. I found the UI extremely easy to get used to, there are no confusing bits, and it’s very minimalistic and straight to the point.

As far as free desktop VPN providers go, Atlas VPN is quite secure. It uses the latest encryption standard, paired with the modern tunneling protocol. That’s why it shows good performance in terms of speed as well. One thing that I don’t like about this free VPN on PC is the US jurisdiction. This country is famous for its data retention laws, but I believe that with a no-logs policy, there’s nothing to worry about. Now, as I said in the beginning, even the best free Windows VPN options are often limited, and Atlas VPN is no exception.

🔥 ProtonVPN - a Free VPN with Unlimited bandwidth
------------------------------------------------

This is Proton VPN, yet another freemium VPN, meaning the free version is supported by paid customers, not data scraping. Windows users will appreciate the feature-rich app, but unfortunately only in the premium version. The free version lacks most of the functions of the paid app, but that also makes it easier to use as a result.

In terms of user privacy, this one is a bit better than Atlas VPN. The Swiss jurisdiction is safer, as Switzerland is not a part of any information-sharing alliances. Proton VPN’s no-logs policy was audited by a reputable company, so this part is also solid.

Security-wise, Proton VPN uses the same kind of encryption as Atlas VPN, and they are both solid free safe VPN options. However, Proton VPN also has the Stealth VPN feature, which can mask VPN traffic from ISPs. That’s mostly useful for countries or environments where VPN usage is banned though.

🧨Windscribe - a Free VPN with the most available locations
------------------------------------------------

Among the free VPN for Windows options, Windscribe tends to stand out. While being another freemium VPN, it’s also the one with the most locations available for free. Eleven different countries, with dozens of servers spread among them - it’s a good choice that even some premium options fail to offer.

If you ever feel like your Windows VPN experience is lacking in variety - this is the option to go for. Unfortunately, Windscribe’s free version can’t be used for streaming, but it used to be possible before. Who knows, streaming could become an option in the future. That said, even if it does, a 10 Gb data limit is not enough for that, though it’s more generous than Atlas VPN.

In terms of speed across those 11 servers, Windscribe uses WireGuard, just like the previous two, so with this free VPN for PC, download speed is pretty fast and consistent.

VPN Stands for Virtual Private network. Its job is to ensure the safe delivery of data across public networks. By doing this, it allows users to send data as if they were connected directly to the private network.

Private WAN technology is available however they come at a price. Internet VPNs however only require a very affordable internet connection.

A VPN is often described as a tunnel. Your data is encrypted before it passes through the public internet. This way, if one of the bad guys does get their hands on your data, they can't make any sense of it. Once your data is received, it is then decrypted using a special key so it can be read.


There are two main types of VPN.

A site-to-site VPN connects two or more sites together. It needs to be configured on both networks, so it's ideal in situations when you have multiple remote sites.

But you may also have individual users that work from home, coffee shops or anywhere else in the world. These users still require access to the corporate network, but a site-to-site VPN won't work because you have no control over the networks they are connecting from.

Instead, they can use a remote access VPN. A remote-access VPN grants access to the corporate network but only for one device, for example, a users laptop in a coffee shop. This is unlike the site-to-site VPNs which connects two entire networks.

When configuring remote access VPNs, you need to decide if you want to use a 'full tunnel' or a 'split tunnel'. A full tunnel means that once connected to the VPN, all network traffic from this host will be forwarded to the corporate network. A split tunnel means only traffic destined for the corporate office is sent over the VPN. All other traffic is routed as normal.

IPSec is a framework or set of rules for creating VPNs over a network.
It does not define one way to create a VPN, but rather allows several protocols to be used for each VPN feature. IPSec is often used for site-to-site VPNs but it can also be used for remote access.
