7 Foods Dr. Berg Says You Should Think Twice About
We all want to eat healthy, but sometimes foods that seem good for us aren't what they're cracked up to be. Dr. Eric Berg, a chiropractor, points out 7 common foods that you might want to reconsider.
Granola Bars: While they seem like a healthy snack, many granola bars are packed with sugar and unhealthy oils. Plus, some contain GMO ingredients.
Agave Syrup: It's often marketed as a healthy sweetener, but agave is high in fructose, which can be hard on your liver.
Flavored Yogurt: That yummy fruit flavor often comes with a lot of added sugar. And, the good bacteria (probiotics) might not be as plentiful as you think. Plain yogurt or kefir might be better choices.
Non-Dairy Creamers: These may seem like a good option for those avoiding dairy, but many contain unhealthy fats and hidden sugars. Organic cream or half-and-half might be a better bet.
Soy Milk: While popular with vegans and those with lactose intolerance, Dr. Berg suggests soy milk may have some unwanted hormonal effects. He suggests organic milk as an alternative.
Fast Food Salads: Salads are healthy, right? Not always. Fast food salads can be loaded with unhealthy dressings and the lettuce may have been washed with chlorine. Making your own salad at home is the safest option.
Puffed Cereal: It's a breakfast staple for many, but Dr. Berg warns that puffed cereal is highly processed and may not be as healthy as we think.
